Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports reached a record in 2025. Industry estimates put the year at about US$8.5 billion, up from US$7.2 billion in 2024, US$5.6 billion in 2023 and US$3.34 billion in 2022, according to figures reported by Vietnam News. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) estimated a record US$8 to 8.4 billion, an 18 % rise on the year before, as reported by Fruitnet. For a buyer of frozen mango or passion fruit in the United States, the headline is useful, but the detail behind it is more useful still.

The United States is now a growth market for Vietnamese fruit

Exports to the U.S. reached US$499.2 million in the first eleven months of 2025, up 56 % on the year before, according to Vietnam News. China remains by far the largest buyer, at nearly US$5 billion over the same period, with the U.S. and South Korea next in the figures reported.

For importers, a growing trade lane usually brings more carriers and forwarders familiar with Vietnamese fruit. It is worth asking each supplier which U.S. documents they already prepare as routine.

Headline growth is not the same in every fruit

Durian alone was estimated at more than US$4 billion in 2025, roughly half of the total. A record year for the sector therefore tells you little about any single fruit. When you plan a frozen mango or passion fruit program, ask your supplier about volumes, varieties and capacity for the fruit you actually buy.

Processed fruit is growing too

Canned and dried products were estimated at about US$1.65 billion in 2025, with double-digit growth, according to the same report. Processing turns a short harvest into year-round supply. For industrial buyers, that is the reason to buy frozen: the fruit is cut and frozen at peak ripeness, then shipped when your production plan needs it.

Five things U.S. buyers can do now

  • Write the specification first. Variety, cut, minimum Brix, packing and shelf life. Our frozen mango buyer guide and passion fruit buyer guide list what to fix.
  • Check FDA registration. TbesAgri lists U.S. FDA food facility registration 16881763574.
  • Build the FSVP file before the first order. Ask for the specification, process description and lot test results up front. Our U.S. importer guide covers FSVP and Prior Notice.
  • Consider a second origin. A Vietnamese frozen mango or passion fruit program can sit next to your existing suppliers and spread supply risk across regions.
  • Combine fruits in one program. Mango and passion fruit are our two main exports, and they often travel in the same program with dragon fruit or pineapple from our IQF frozen fruit range.
