Most frozen mango buyers write a specification once and reorder against it for years. Getting the first one right saves a lot of claims, re-tests and awkward phone calls later. This guide explains how we specify the two Vietnamese varieties that go into our IQF lines, Cat Chu and Kaew, and what an importer should fix in the contract before the first container ships.

Cat Chu or Kaew: which mango fits your product?

Vietnam grows many mango varieties, but two carry most frozen programs. They taste different, freeze differently and suit different products.

  • Cat Chu is a Mekong Delta variety with thin skin and sweet, smooth, low-fiber flesh. Our specification sets Brix at 13 or more. We supply it as 20 × 20 mm dice, sticks (40, 50 or 60 mm), halves or puree. See the Cat Chu product page.
  • Kaew balances sweetness with a light tang. Our specification sets Brix at 9 or more, cut as 15, 20 or 25 mm dice or halves. See the Kaew product page.

In our experience, Cat Chu is the better choice when mango is the star of the product: smoothie bowls, sorbets, yogurt inclusions and premium desserts, where sweetness and color carry the eating experience. Kaew works well in juice blends and fruit preparations, where a little acidity keeps the flavor bright next to other fruits.

What to put in the specification

A frozen mango specification is short, but every line matters. These are the points we agree with each buyer before production.

  • Variety. Name it. "Mango" alone leaves room for substitution.
  • Cut and tolerance. Dice size, stick length or halves, plus the share of undersize pieces you accept.
  • Brix. A minimum per lot, measured on thawed fruit.
  • Color. Natural yellow, with the shade range agreed against a reference sample.
  • Freezing. IQF, so pieces stay loose and free-flowing in the bag.
  • Packing. Our standard is 10 kg in a PE liner inside a carton. Retail and private-label packs are agreed per order.
  • Storage and shelf life. −18 °C or below, with a shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture.

Why IQF matters for industrial buyers

Individually quick frozen fruit is frozen piece by piece. A production team can scoop exactly what a batch needs and return the rest to the freezer without thawing a block. Fast freezing also limits ice crystal growth inside the fruit, which helps diced mango keep its shape when it is mixed into yogurt, baked or blended.

Documents for the U.S. and the EU

TbesAgri lists U.S. FDA food facility registration 16881763574. For U.S. shipments, the importer keeps a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) file, and we share the specification, process description and lot test results it needs. Our U.S. importer guide covers Prior Notice and labeling.

For EU shipments, the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement removed duties on most fruit and vegetables from Vietnam, provided the consignment carries valid proof of origin. Our EU importer guide explains the EUR.1 certificate and the origin statement.
